Eric Benet, who arguably should have made the initial 50 SHADES OF BLACK cover offered this reflection in response to the controversy that his recent song, Red Bone Girl, featuring Lil Wayne has sparked:
You can talk about how wonderful it is to be with a dark complected person, but how dare you talk about being with a light skinned person.
The song is a trip down memory lane and an ode to a particular women/a woman from Benet's past. Weezy goes on to say in his verse that he "likes them light skinned, lighter than a feather".
Eric Benet is now married to Manuela Testolini, wife formerly of the artist formerly known as Prince now known as Prince again (smile). Mr. Benet is also the former husband of Halle Berry, also featured on the 50 SHADES OF BLACK cover and in this artwork created for the chapter The Blacker the Berry?
Among other reasons, the fact that this conversation is even a reality is why 50 SHADES OF BLACK was created. We won't even go into the politics of his use of the term "Red Bone".
